Microsoft Outlook for iOS devices has finally arrived.

However, those on Android devices will have to wait a little longer as Outlook has only been released as a preview version for Android devices so far.

With the release of Outlook in the form of an app, Microsoft hopes that users will stop using the in-built calendar apps that such devices come with and instead switch to the familiar alternative.

The announcement of the app's release came from Microsoft's blog. There the company stated that it has listened to the demands of customers who wanted to use their mobile devices to do more than just check their email. The company described how the new app will make sorting of e-mails easier. Along with this the app, Microsoft will also provide special tools for managing contacts and calendar

Reporting on the new Outlook app, Forbes said Microsoft was able to create it after it acquired Acompli last year. The Outlook app will function by segregating email into two tabs fashioned after inboxes. Essential email will be routed to the "Focused" inbox while non-essential ones will land in the "Other" inbox. As the user starts to move email from "Focused" inbox to that of the "Other," Microsoft will be able to better predict in future what types of email should land in the inboxes.

While in the inboxes, users will be able to swipe left or right and archive, move, flag or read email. These swiping motions which have been preset can even be customized by the user which, according to Forbes, gives the app from Microsoft a major advantage over its competitors.

Another neat feature in the app is predictive search which shortens the process of finding e-mail and contacts. Using the people function, users will also be able to access people to whom they send emails often.

The app is designed to work with Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Microsoft Exchange, Outlook.com, Office 365 and Apple iCloud.
