Two new DLC packs for "Minecraft" – the Mass Effect Mash Up Pack and the Pattern Texture Pack – were launched on Wednesday for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita.

The Mash Effect Mash-Up Pack will enable "Minecraft" players to explore the Mars Facility from Bioware's Mass Effect 3 and create their own worlds using Mass Effect textures and craftable items. A themed UI and menus plus 36 character skins and 22 music tracks will let players battle Reapers in the blocky Minecraft universe.

The Pattern Texture Pack will allow players to decorate their Minecraft worlds with bright colors, beautiful patterns, and knitted animals. The pack also provides a themed UI and stylized texture set that can be applied to new or previously created Minecraft worlds.

"Minecraft" is a sandbox independent video game originally created by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson and later developed and published by Swedish company Mojang. The game allows players to build objects out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world.

Other activities include exploration, gathering resources, crafting and combat. Multi-player modes are available, including survival mode (player must acquire resources to build the world and maintain health), creative mode (player has unlimited resources to build with and the ability to fly), adventure mode (players play custom maps created by other players).

The initial alpha version of the game was released for PC on May 17, 2009, and after gradual updates, the full version was released on Nov. 18, 2011. An Android version was released earlier on Oct. 7, 2011 and an iOS version on Nov. 17, 2011.

The game was released on the Xbox 360 and as an Xbox Live Arcade game on May 9, 2012. It was released on PlayStation 3 on Dec. 17, 2013, on PlayStation 4 on Sept. 4, 2014 and on Xbox One on the next day and on PlayStation Vita on Oct. 14, 2014. On Dec. 20, 2014, a Windows Phone version was released.
