'Narcos' Season 2 release date news: Premiere still unconfirmed; Producers tried shooting scene on location where real-life events occurred

The second season of Netflix's hit crime drama series "Narcos" has already entered the production stage. Filming has already taken place in several locations where the actual events that inspired the series happened, and the producers even tried to film a particular death scene where the real-life counterpart of the show's protagonist died. Although "Narcos" has already shot a few scenes, the exact premiere of Season 2 is still not yet confirmed, but as the production has already kicked off, viewers can expect the new season to air this year.

According to Yibada, the team behind "Narcos" has not yet disclosed the exact show date of Season 2 on Netflix. However, the ongoing production would suggest that the second season will arrive sometime this year, possibly around August.

On the other hand, it has been reported by TMZ that the producers of "Narcos" Season 2 tried to shoot a crucial scene where the real-life Pablo Escobar met his demise. Since the show has mainly focused on the actual events in the life of Escobar, one the biggest and most fearsome drug lords in history, the producers wanted to film the death scene of the character (portrayed by Wagner Moura) in the same roof where Escobar was shot dead back in 1993. The crew tried convincing the owner of the house to film the particular scene in the location, but they failed in doing so. Apparently, the residents of the community are still terrified by the killings that happened in the area 23 years ago. Luckily for the team, they were able to find a similar location to film the important scene.

"Narcos" was first aired on Netflix in 2015 and it became one of the most-watched series in the online streaming media. The narrative of the life of Escobar from being a small-time drug dealer in the underground industry to a prominent drug lord of Colombia has captivated a lot of viewers. Although the fans would like to see more thrilling escapades of the protagonist in the show, there is actually little ground to cover in the forthcoming Season 2. In an interview with Slash Film, "Narcos" showrunner Eric Newman revealed that there is no way that they can still keep Wagner's character alive any longer. This is due to the fact that the first season already covered much of Escobar's early life as a drug dealer until his escape from the prison in 1992. The second season is expected to cover Escobar's journey after his prison breakout until his death in 1993, meaning that there are only 13 months of his life to show.
