New Star Wars Film Name Brings Strong Reaction From Fans

Following the announcement of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as the title of the seventh film in the Star Wars franchise, fans reacted strongly, some in anger while others in jest.

As soon as Disney announced the title, the Internet caught on and a number of jokes came out. Some fans were peeved at Disney for creating a name that allegedly divides followers of the space epic.

Movie reviewers also jumped into the fray, noting that the title was "vanilla" and could have been the title of any of the Star Wars films or associated products. Mike Ryan at Screencrush told USA Today that "The Phantom Menace" was a much more interesting title.

Some reviewers believe there is actually no ambiguity on what the "force" in the title means. They say it refers to the power that is present everywhere in the universe and is harnessed both by the Jedi and the Sith. The "force" has played an important part in all Star Wars films and has been used for both good and bad purposes.

The film title suggests that there will be more focus around the importance of the force and how it reemerges after the defeat of the Sith and the death of Emperor Palpatine at the hands of Darth Vader in the "Return of the Jedi."

On where the force would awaken, there is much debate, but it looks like Luke Skywalker played by Mark Hamill will take over the leadership of the Jedi and become a prime player in the next film.

Hamill will rejoin Star Wars originals Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Also in the cast are Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Adam Driver.
