The final episode of TNT's police procedural drama "Rizzoli & Isles" is airing on Monday, and fans are wondering how the series will wrap up to give proper closure to each character, especially that of Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli and Chief Medical Examiner Maura Isles.

According to the teasers for the series finale, some of the events that transpired in last Monday's episode titled "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" may have a bearing on Jane (Angie Harmon) and Maura's (Sasha Alexander) next move. Here's a quick recap of that episode:

The episode saw Jane and Maura investigating two murders simultaneously – one from the past and one from the present – with both being somewhat connected to Jane's partner, Korsak (Bruce McGill). Apparently, Korsak dated the daughter, Mary, of Walter Sokoloff, the murdered victim, several years back.

The daughter's death put Walter in a downward spiral, and it was only recently that Walter got his life back on track working for the victim's advocacy department. Later on, through a DNA testing conducted by Maura, it was discovered that the person who killed Wendy in 1975 and Walter's killer was the same person. Wendy's murder remains a mystery 41 years later, so Jane has no lead as to the killer's identity.

Fortunately, Jane found out that in 1975, the police were suspecting the Davenport family for Wendy's murder. When Jane and Korsak went to question them, they were surprised to find out the family was represented by a lawyer, making the police duo become even more suspicious. Thanks to the Davenport patriarch's dementia, Jane was able to procure some tears for a DNA test.

The test proved one of the Davenport sons, Robbie, killed Wendy over a locket. Unfortunately, the episode failed to explain why killed her and her father.

Moving on to Monday's finale titled "Ocean Frank," it looks like two developments from episode 12 will determine which direction Jane and Maura will individually take when they go their separate ways. Check out the synopsis shared by Carter Matt:

"The facts don't add up when a dead man is found handcuffed to a bed in his own home. As the 'Bon Voyage' party approaches, everyone makes a video to say goodbye. In the series finale episode of Rizzoli & Isles, everyone says farewell and plans for their next adventure."

So it looks like the duo will still be investigating a murder in the series finale, although the episode will also focus on giving viewers a preview of the next chapter of the characters' lives.

Jane has already told everyone back in episode 11 that she has taken the job at Quantico, but it turns out she's also figuring in a blossoming romance with her new boss, Agent Davies. Maura, on the other hand, revealed that she will be taking a year off from work, moving to France, and writing her novel. It looks like she will be devoting more time polishing her writing skills after receiving negative feedback from her first book.

"Rizzoli & Isles" will air its series finale on Monday, Sept. 5, at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
