"Scandal" season 6 is preparing for an explosive premiere as the new season will fire up with the election right off the bat. This was revealed by the show's creator herself, Shonda Rhimes.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rhimes said that the new season is "basically going to start our season on election night." This means that the new leaders of fictional United States will be revealed in the very first episode.

"Yes, it is going to play into our season, but we're not going to spend our time playing an election," Rhimes then clarified about the extent of the fictional election in "Scandal" season 6.

The highly-anticipated event was being built up in the fifth season as all president and vice president candidates do everything they can—good or bad, illegal or allowed—to win America's vote.

Olivia (Kerry Washington), for one, has done so much to ensure Mellie (Bellamy Young) wins the presidency. Jake (Scott Foley), after what he had to go through at the hands of Liv's father, will be her vice president.

In "Scandal" season 6, the duo goes up against incumbent VP Susan Ross and tycoon Hollis Doyle, who is said to be the Donald Trump in the "Scandal" universe.

The first hurdle for Liv's candidates is of course Democratic representative Francisco Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) and his VP Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), who are putting up a good fight.

"Scandal" season 6 was delayed to midseason due to Washington's pregnancy with her second child. It is also because of the star's leave that the new season was cut from 22 episodes to 16.

At the moment, a premiere for the new season is yet to be revealed, although production is about to start with the table reads already out of the way.

Some of the cast members that "Scandal" season 6 will be mind-blowing. Unfortunately, there are many months to go before the new season premieres on ABC.
