Sony Xperia XR release date, specs news 2016: September launch for new Sony smartphone?

While everyone is talking about the upcoming release of the new generation iPhone smartphone, Sony is gearing up for the launching of its new flagship handset called Sony Xperia XR. According to the latest reports, the highly anticipated Sony device will outdo most top-tier phones in the market today.

Sony Xperia XR is expected to be the next flagship smartphone for the company, replacing the current one, which is the Sony Xperia X. As of the moment, several Sony phones are currently available including the Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and the Xperia X Performance.

According to a report by MobiPicker, there are speculations circulating all over the internet suggesting that the new Sony device will come out in September at the IFA 2016 event. The publication added that several photos of the alleged smartphone have already been leaked online. Apparently, the new Sony Xperia XR will come out larger than the current Xperia X Performance at 146.4 x 71.9 x 81.9 mm compared to the latter's 143.7 x 70.4 x 8.7 mm size.

The device will carry a 5.1-inch with 1920 x 1080 pixels full HD resolution. According to reports, the device will run on a Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm.

Other features of the device include a USB Type-C port, which is located on its bottom side as shown on the leaked image of the device, a rear and front-facing camera with 4K shooting support.

Meanwhile, according to Tech Plz, the powerful Snapdragon chipset will be paired with 3 GB of RAM.

There are also reports suggesting that the new Sony Xperia XR will run on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. Reports have yet to emerge saying if the device will carry the latest Google Android N Nougat. However, it is expected to support the update once the new operating system is already available.

Sony has yet to make an official announcement with regard to its release date, which is rumored to happen in September.
