'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers: Synopses for episodes 1 & 2 revealed; Mary, Dean and Castiel team up to rescue Sam

The Winchester brothers Sam and Dean will soon be back to continue their fight against evil sinister forces in the upcoming premiere of The CW's long-running series "Supernatural" season 12.

Premiere synopsis

Titled "Keep Calm and Carry On," the first episode will see the return of Sam and Dean's presumed-to-be-dead mother, Mary. According to the official synopsis, Dean (Jensen Ackles) will be beyond overwhelmed as he comes face to face with his mom, Mary Winchester (guest star Samantha Smith). Sam (Jared Padalecki), on the other hand,  will continue to fight for his life after Toni, sent by the Woman of Letters, shot him.

 Episode 2 synopsis

Set to air on Oct. 20, the second episode's synopsis has recently been revealed. In the said episode, Dean, Castiel (Misha Collins) and Mary will finally have a lead on where Sam is located. The three characters will later set out on a mission to rescue him before it's too late. Dean is uncomfortable to put Mary in a dangerous situation, but she insists on coming with them to save her son. Meanwhile, someone tells Crowley that Lucifer has taken over a new body. This time, the King of Hell is controlling popular rock star Vince Vicente.

Guest stars & returning characters

Season 12 will be introducing a stellar lineup of guest cast members, including Kara Royster of Freeform's long-running teen drama "Pretty Little Liars." As previously reported, Royster will be playing the role of Alicia, a fellow hunter who meets Sam and Dean in episode 6. Raised by a witch, Alicia and her brother Max also hunt for evil supernatural forces. Also guest starring this season is musician Rick Springfield as Lucifer's new rockstar vessel. Joining Smith as returning character for season 12 is Aaron Bass, who will appear in episode 5.

The 12th season of "Supernatural" premieres on Thursday, October 13 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
