Bethesda has confirmed that it is developing another installment in its "The Elder Scrolls" franchise, its most successful and longest-running video game series to date.

In a recent interview with Geoff Keighley during YouTube's Live at the recently concluded E3 2016, Bethesda Game Studios' game director Todd Howard said that they are "of course" working on "The Elder Scrolls 6."

But while this is surely good news for "The Elder Scrolls" fans, Howard also said that they shouldn't expect the game to become available anytime soon.

"It's something we love," Howard said during the interview (via IGN). "But it is — I have to be careful what I say — it's a very long way off. I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, 'That sounds like you don't even have the technology — how long is that going to take?' And so it's something that's going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game."

Howard went on to confirm something he had more or less denied earlier this year. In an interview with gamesindustry.biz in March, the Bethesda Game Studios boss backtracked on a previous comment about three upcoming "big and crazy" Bethesda projects. According to Howard, he shouldn't have said a number and all those projects are still a long way off. He also said that Bethesda's projects often overlap and that the studio has a lot on its plate this year.

During the YouTube Live interview, Howard said that Bethesda is currently developing two other "large projects" aside from the sixth "The Elder Scrolls" game. He also said that gamers will likely hear about these two other projects before "The Elder Scrolls 6" is announced.

"We think very long term," he explained. "We're not a developer that's going to rush something like this out."

At Bethesda's Showcase event at E3, Howard announced a remastered version of "The Elder Scrolls 5" called "Skyrim Special Edition," which will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 28.

Bethesda has yet to announce the official release date for "The Elder Scrolls 6."
