Many fans are worried that "The Originals" season 4 could be the end of the vampire drama when The CW left its fate unknown after renewing a batch of its shows. The latest shakeup behind the scenes gives suggests that the show could be in further trouble.

"The Originals" showrunner Michael Narducci is leaving the series, which means that should there be a fifth season, he will not be a part of it.

He will be leaving Warner Bros. Television altogether to work on ABC Studios as part of his two-year deal there. This had many wondering if this could be the final nail in the coffin for "The Originals."

Show creator Julie Plec spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Narducci's exit. "Mike got an opportunity he couldn't pass up," she said. "He has been a brilliant partner and friend and I'm going to miss him desperately," she went on to say.

According to the publication, Plec will be the one to take over should "The Originals" season 5 happen, seeing that "The Vampire Diaries" is ending this year anyway.

At the moment, some are worried Narducci's exit will further lead to the show's cancellation. The fact that it has not been renewed yet when many shows have been already has many anxious about the return of the Mikaelson clan's return.

Add to the fact that its parent series is about to wind up to a close and how the show's ratings and viewership have been consistently on a decline.

The CW president Mark Pedowitz recently talked about the idea of "The Originals" season 4 being the end for "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff.

"I hope The Originals can continue. A lot of it depends on its performance," he said via TV Guide. "I'm counting on [Plec] to deliver for this season," the executive went on to say.

"The Originals" season 4 premieres Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW with brand-new threats and an all-grown-up Hope played by Summer Fontana.
