Winds of Winter release date latest news: Sixth book delayed due to seventh book?

George R.R. Martin's "The Winds of Winter" is still one of the most-awaited novels across the globe today. Fans have been waiting for the sixth installment in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series for some time already but until now, there is no specific date of release announced. Luckily, there are leaks and rumors going around that fans can hold on to while patiently waiting.

According to reports, the novel could be released this coming August. Martin announced via his live journal that he will be attending the upcoming 74th World Science Convention, which will be held on Aug. 17-21. He said that he will be there for book signing and other activities as well such as panels and a reading.

There was no mention of releasing the sixth novel but fans are crossing their fingers that it will be announced by that time. But until it is officially stated, "The Winds of Winter" is still out of sight.

There are even rumors suggesting that the sixth title is delayed due to the seventh book, "A Dream of Spring." Martin may be dilly-dallying because he may be planning to release both of the books at the same time.

Other speculations include a possible change in the story plot and Martin getting stuck in his writing. But so far, the novelist has been reading out some excerpts from chapters from the book so those may not be possible reasons. A year-end release is also in the talks.

Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series is the source of the most-talked about HBO series "Game of Thrones." The show just concluded its season 6 even though there was no novel to follow. Fans are now wondering how much of the plot that was seen in the show will be the same with the plot in the novel.
