For Christians, the Bible is the basis of absolute truth and instructions of how to live each day. It is the source of many principles, moralities, ideologies, and values. Even the constitutions of most countries are based on the powerful words of the Bible.

Money is also an issue discussed in the Bible. The area of finances is something the Bible is not silent about. The area of finances is something the Bible is not silent about. This covers everything from saving, spending, and even to the extent of debt help programs. Here are what the Bible says about spending money:

1. Be wise when it's time to stop

Proverbs 23:4 says "Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit." The Bible is very clear- it implies wisdom in terms of our financial life. It clearly says that we should not reach a point where we sacrifice our own well-being for the sake of money.

2. Stop borrowing from other people

Proverbs 22:26-27 says "Don't agree to guarantee another person's debt or put up security for someone else. If you can't pay it, even your bed will be snatched from under you." The Bible warns clearly against lending money from other people or taking responsibility for others' debts. Stay away from the life of debts and be conservative about loans. Don't borrow something you cannot pay back.

3. Spend on the right motives

In the book of James, the Bible says in the fourth chapter that "Even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong--you want only what will give you pleasure." This implies that when we spend, we should not think only of our own passions, but also with respect and accountability to other people.

4. Self-control is key

Many times, it is referenced throughout the Bible that we should exhibit self-control, even in matters of spending. We should not spend extravagantly and live above our means. 2 Timothy 1:7 says "for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and SELF-CONTROL."
