'God of War' latest news: 2017 release hinted at by voice actor
Christopher Judge, who is the voice actor of Kratos in "God of War," may have just accidentally revealed the release date of the upcoming game.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the actor updated his Twitter bio to include "God of War," with "2017" in parentheses. It is possible that he indicated 2017 as the year he worked on the project, not necessarily the time when the game will be released. Nonetheless, a lot of fans are hoping that it is the latter. Digital Spy also reported that Amazon showed that "God of War" will be released within 2017, although the website has since taken out the date. "God of War" is highly anticipated by fans because the last game in the series was released two years ago.
"God of War" was unveiled during Sony's E3 2016 press conference. It was revealed that Kratos, his visage visibly aged, has found his way to Norse mythology, and he now has a son, Charlie, with the former teaching the latter how to hunt. He and his son will need to survive the harsh living conditions even as they stand to face mythological beings and creatures, such as a Titan and a dragon. Some are speculating that Charlie will end up being a Norse God himself, maybe even Thor the Thunder God, because lightning flashes whenever he shoots arrows from his bow.
Santa Monica Creative Director Corey Barlog stated that Kratos will be struggling with relating to his son, and the dynamics between them will play a large role in the game. He said, "He has lost so much of his humanity. What an interesting journey to get that back."
He also clarified that the game will not be a reboot. Instead, it will be a reimagining of Kratos's origins. At the same time, it will provide depth to his character, especially since he now has a little boy to take care of.
Santa Monica, the game's publisher, has yet to make an official statement on when this game will be released.
This will be the first "God of War" title for PlayStation 4.
