2016 most Bible-minded cities in US named
The American Bible Society has revealed the most Bible-minded cities in America, with Chattanooga once again topping the list.
The Tennessee city has been named the most Bible-minded city in America for three of the past four years, whilst Tennessee is the only state to have three cities included in the list's top 10.
The study conducted by the Barna Group discovered that Southern cities continued to be the country's most Bible-minded. Following Chattanooga (52%) are Birmingham, Anniston, Tuscaloosa and Alabama (51%) second in the list, while Lynchburg, Roanoke, and Virginia (48%) came in third.
The data reported was based upon telephone and online interviews with nationwide random samples of 65,064 adults conducted over a 10-year period, ending in August 2015. The top 100 cities were determined based on the 100 largest media markets in the continental U.S..
The study's main focus was whether or not the respondent had read the Bible in the past week or if he or she believed strongly in the Bible's teachings.
According to Andrew Hood, the Managing Director of Communications at the American Bible Society, the top cities have been part of the list for quite some time.
"We've seen the same five cities dominate the top five spots consistently," he observed.
"We continually seek opportunities to support local churches across America by equipping leaders to help people encounter the life-changing message of the Bible. We commend local pastors who encourage congregants to read the Bible regularly." he added.
