Local churches unites to help Presbyterians purchase historic building

Pastors and church leaders from 8 churches extended financial help to a Presbyterian church in order to buy a church building and lot.

The First Presbyterian Church in Boulder County, Colorado is aiming to raise funds in order buy the property from its parent church, the PC (USA).

The historic Boulder Christian church will transfer to join the ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterian, which is known for being "conservative", holding traditional interpretation of the Bible.

A party of 20, including 8 pastors and several church leaders gathered at a staff meeting of the First Presbyterian Church, where they gave financial assistance amounting to almost $50,000.

Rev. Erik Hanson of the Presbyterian church was both "touched and surprised" by the amount of help the churches extended to them. The eight churches include the Flatirons Community Church, which started as a small Bible study group with First Presbyterian, Vinelife, Cornerstone Church, All Souls, Ascent, Calvary Bible, The Well, and Boulder Valley Christian.

According to a report by BCN, Boulder Valley Christian Church Pastor, Matt Carlson, first envisioned the idea, in order to help First Presbyterian raise the $2.29 million price tag of the historic building and land.

Carlson presented the idea to the six other pastors who meet once a month in fellowship, pray and worship.

"We pray that this would be the first move of the Holy Spirit in a way that will truly blow in and through this town in shocking, incredible, courageous and encouraging ways," Rev. Hanson said.

Meanwhile, Associate Pastor Carl Hoffman was inspired by what their fellow Boulder neighborhood churches did.

"In this surprising act of kindness, these pastors demonstrated how Jesus views His Church: He sees us all together in one Body in a region, teaming up to minister together in His name," Hoffman said.
