'12 Monkeys' season 3 release date: What to expect following epic season 2 finale and Witness reveal
Following its mind-blowing events in the season 2 finale, fans now wish they could time travel to the premiere of "12 Monkeys" season 3, which won't be until next year.

In the "12 Monkeys" season 2 finale, it was revealed that Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Cassie's (Amanda Schull) child was the Witness all along.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Terry Matalas said that the pair's child was chosen as the Witness so that it will have "tremendous impact dramatically and emotionally," but there's more to that storytelling choice.
"It wasn't just that it would be shocking, it needed to be heartbreaking too and also really ask some serious questions of Cassie and Cole in season 3 — emotional, devastating questions about what to do next. It was something we knew for a long time," Matalas said.
The EP added that in "12 Monkeys" season 3, the focus will be the Witness. With that said, fans will get to see his or her face in the upcoming season.
Thankfully, Matalas offered a bit of information about the Witness. Since he or she was born out of time and was born of two time travellers, the physiology of the Witness will be severely affected.
With regards to Cassie, who got stuck in the year 2163 where she learned that she is the mother of the Witness, Cole will rush to her aid in "12 Monkeys" season 3, but Matalas warns that it won't be easy for him.
In the new season, the two will also try to figure out the right thing to do knowing that their child is actually the same individual who will bring about the end of the world.
"What does that say about their love in general? Was it meant not to be? These are things, really rich emotional territory that Cassie and Cole are going to have to navigate next season," Matalas teased.
"12 Monkeys" season 3 premieres sometime next year.
