2 Injured After Shots Fired at National Security Agency in Maryland

Police are reportedly responding to an incident at the National Security Agency at Fort Meade in Maryland, where shots were fired after two suspects reportedly tried to ram their vehicle into the agency's entrance gate.

Preliminary reports suggest that two people were injured in Monday morning's incident that took place around 9:30 a.m. local time. Aerial camera footage from Fort Meade shows a heavy police presence and two severely damaged vehicles near the agency's entrance.

After the vehicle attempted to ram the entrance gate, guards standing near the gate reportedly shot at the vehicle. Video footage shows an ambulance wheeling one of the injured in a stretcher, who appears to be wearing a guard uniform. 

As the investigation into Monday morning's incident continues, the local police department for the county has referred all questions to the National Security Agency.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department's Twitter shared a short statement on the incident, saying: "@AACoFD is assisting @FortMeadeMD with an incident on their property. ALL information released will be from Fort Meade PAO."

Other media outlets have also taken to Twitter to discuss Monday's incident, although information is sparse as police continue to investigate the alleged shooting between two men in a black, unmarked vehicle and the agency's guards.

The incident took place at one of the complex's many entrance gates that is reportedly far from the base's main buildings.

"#Breaking 2 men tried to ram gate to enter NSA headquarters in Fort Meade; 1 of them shot dead," CNN's "The Situation Room" shared via Twitter.

According to CNN, the National Security Agency at Fort Meade houses some 6,000 people, and 11,000 military personnel and 29,000 civilians work at the base.
