2016 Presidential Hopeful Mike Huckabee Says America Has 'Sin Problem,' Not 'Skin Problem'
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee recently suggested that America has a "sin problem" while speaking at an African American church in South Carolina.
Huckabee, a 2016 presidential hopeful, made his comments while speaking at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, South Carolina this past Sunday.
In his speech, Huckabee suggested to churchgoers that America doesn't have a "skin problem," but rather a "sin problem."
"I hear people say we've got racial problems. We don't have a skin problem in this country, we have a sin problem in this country," Huckabee, a Baptist minister, told the crowd.
"We get all wrapped up in the things that divide us. Are you left or are you right? Are you Democrat or Republican? We didn't come here to scream at each other," the presidential hopeful added.
Huckabee went on to address the recent June 17 shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina that left nine dead, including state senator Clementa C. Pinckney.
The shooter, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, had reportedly told police that he was attempting to start a race war with his attack.
As CNN reports, the Huckabee presidential campaign recently released a video from 1997 that shows the former governor discussing the importance of love and respect among different races.
The video reportedly shows Huckabee speaking back in 1997 on the 40th anniversary of the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School.
"Government can ensure that we share schools and streets and lunch counters and buses and elevators and theaters," he said in the speech. "But let us never forget that only God can give us the power to love each other and to respect each other and to share life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
