Well-known actor Hugh Jackman said in a recent interview that ahead of his performances, he prays that he has the ability to "surrender to God."

Jackman recently told Parade magazine that he prays to God before his performances, referencing specifically his upcoming "Broadway to Oz" performance in Australia in the coming weeks.

"Before I go onstage every night, I pause and dedicate the performance to God, in the sense of 'allow me to surrender.' When you allow yourself to surrender to the story, to the character, to the night, to the audience, transcendence happens," Jackman told the magazine recently. "[...] When that happens, there is nothing like it on the planet. It's the moment people experience when they fall in love, which is equally frightening and exciting. That's what it feels like."

Jackman is also set to play St. Paul in an upcoming film about the apostle's life.

The well-known actor has said in previous interviews that he was raised very religiously, and now identifies with transcendental meditation, although his father was a born-again Christian who would take young Jackman to Billy Graham's evangelistic events.

The actor said in a 2009 interview with Parade magazine that he now identifies more of transcendental meditation instead of evangelical Christianity, saying: "We believe there are many forms of scripture. What is true is true and will never change, whether it's in the Bible or in Shakespeare. It's about oneness. Its basic philosophy is that if the Buddha and Krishna and Jesus were all at a dinner table together, they wouldn't be arguing. There is an essential truth. And we are limitless."
