Adrian Peterson Shares Religious Tweet During Child Abuse Case
Adrian Peterson, running back of the Minnesota Vikings who is currently facing a child injury charge for punishing his son with a switch, took to Twitter over the weekend to share a religious message with his followers.
Peterson, who was not present at Sunday's Vikings game against the New England Patriots, tweeted a Bible passage that appears to be from a daily affirmation book. "Come to me and rest. Give your mind a break from its habitual judging," the passage reads.
"Rather than evaluating my ways with you, accept them thankfully," the highlighted portion of the text adds.
Peterson was recently indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for an injury to child charge after he punished his four-year-old son with swats on his arm, legs and back, inflicted by a tree branch or a switch.
The NFL running back has remained relatively silent on the matter, except for his religious tweet uploaded Sunday at almost exactly the same time the Vikings kicked off their game against the Patriots. Peterson also released a statement Monday that read: "I am not a perfect parent, but I am, without a doubt, not a child abuser."
"I am someone that disciplined his child and did not intend to cause him any injury. No one can understand the hurt that I feel for my son and for the harm I caused him. My goal is always to teach my son right from wrong and that's what I tried to do that day."
Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf announced Monday that Peterson had been cleared to play in the NFL and would be participating in Vikings practice this week, as well as playing with the team in New Orleans against the Saints next weekend. "Today's decision was made after significant thought, discussion and consideration," the team owners said in a statement.
