Adrian Peterson Suspended From NFL for Remainder of 2014 Season
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has reportedly been suspended for the rest of this year's NFL season due to recent charges regarding child abuse.
Although Peterson was able to reach a plea deal in relation to his charges, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a recent statement that Peterson has "shown no meaningful remorse" regarding his charges and will be suspended without pay at least until the end of the 2014 season.
Goodell reportedly sent a letter to Peterson outlining the steps he must take before he is reinstated to the NFL. The association has said the athlete violated its personal conduct policy.
"We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you to succeed, but no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement," Goodell's letter said, according to USA Sports. "You must commit yourself to your counseling and rehabilitative effort, properly care for your children, and have no further violations of law or league policy."
Peterson was forced to go to court over child abuse charges after he was accused of beating his four-year-old son with a switch when the child misbehaved. Earlier this month, Peterson reached a plea deal in which he pled no contest to one charge of reckless assault; a minor was not named in the charges.
"I truly regret this incident," Peterson said following his ruling. "I stand here and I take full responsibility for my actions. I love my son more than anyone of you could manage, and I look forward to continuing my relationship with my child."
"I'm just glad this over and I can put this behind me, and me and my family can move forward," the running back added.
