Android Pay Coming Soon, But Google Not Supporting It?
Right after its launch, Apple Pay has gained much popularity in the market, making NFC-based payments a need for Android, Apple's biggest competition. Although Google and other companies have included similar payment features in the past, they were never given enough attention.
Reports say that an "Android Pay" product is already in development, but not under Google. It is expected to work the same way as Apple Pay, which uses NFC connectivity and biometrics (fingerprint scanner) for wireless payments. Android Pay will work exclusively on Android devices.
Meanwhile, China's UnionPay, the largest and only credit card company in the country owned by the Chinese government, has confirmed their partnership with Apple as they create another wireless payment product, which can work with several other payment products such as Apple Pay and, if the rumors prove to be true, the Android Pay as well.
To confirm partnership, Apple has announced that Apple users in China will now be able to make payments in the App Store using UnionPay credit cards.
According to Wang Yanhui, director of Mobile China Alliance, UnionPay will have a much larger scope than Apple Pay because it will have more "security module manufacturers and cooperating partner options."
China UnionPay is already in talks with large Chinese companies and mobile companies for software support.
In other news, another wireless payment processor will soon compete with Apple Pay and Android Pay. "Alipay," a product developed by Alibaba, is one of the emerging rivals of Apple Pay. Alipay is currently the most dominant payment service in China.
