"By The Sea," Angelina Jolie-Pitt's next directorial effort, has been given an awards-season release date of Nov. 13, 2015 by Universal Pictures.

The drama, which stars Jolie-Pitt with husband Brad Pitt will compete with Warner Bros' mine disaster movie, "The 33," Paramount's horror sequel "Rings" and Open Road's "Rock the Kasbah," starring Bill Murray and Bruce Willis.

"By The Sea," written, produced and directed by Jolie-Pitt, follows American writer Roland (Pitt) and his wife, dancer Vanessa (Jolie-Pitt), who arrive in a quiet and picturesque seaside resort in 1970's France, as part of their countryside travels, as they seem to be growing apart, reaching a sort of crisis in their marriage. As they spend time with fellow travelers, who include newlyweds Lea (Melanie Laurent) and Francois (Melvil Poupaud) and village locals Michel (Niels Arestrup) and Patrice (Richard Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.

The movie is inspired by European cinema and theater of the 1960s and 1970s. "This is a story about a relationship derailed by loss, the tenacity of love and the path to recovery and acceptance," Jolie-Pitt said in a statement. "It has been a privilege to explore these universal human experiences with such a generous and talented cast and crew."

"By The Sea" will be the first time Jolie-Pitt and Pitt will appear together on screen since "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2005, the initial set where they fell in love.

Pitt joins Jolie-Pitt in production duties, while Chris Bingham ("Inception") and "Unbroken" veterans Holly Goline and Michael Vieira serve as executive producers. The key crew includes cinematographer Christian Berger ("The White Ribbon"), who uses his Cine Reflect Lighting System to shoot the film, production designer Jon Hutman ("Unbroken"), editor Patricia Rommel ("The Lives of Others") and costume designer Ellen Mirojnick ("Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps").

Jolie-Pitt's previous film as director, "Unbroken," was shown last Christmas and has so far brought in $161.4 million worldwide.
