Another Shonda Rhimes Show, 'The Catch,' Gets Picked Up by ABC for 2015-2016 Season
Shonda Rhimes is already a force to be reckoned with on TV, what with three highly rated and critically acclaimed women-centric shows on the air: "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," and "How to Get Away With Murder."
ABC has given Rhimes another vote of confidence by picking up her show "The Catch," for the 2015-2016 season.
The series is about a female fraud investigator who's about to get conned by her fiancé, but—surprise!—she isn't who she seems to be.
Rhimes will executive produce the show with co-creator Betsy Beers, as well as Julie Anne Robinson and Jennifer Schuur, who will write the pilot. Mireille Enos ('The Killing") has been cast to star as Alice Martin, a strong and successful fraud investigator who's about to become a victim of fraud herself by her fiancé. Other cast members include Alimi Ballard as Evan, Damon Dayoub as Kieran, Jay Hayden as James, Jacky Ido as Emil, Bethany Joy Lenz as Zoe, Rose Rollins as Andie and Elvy Yost as Maria.
Apart from "The Catch," ABC picked up five other drama series, as follows:
● "The Family" — A thriller that follows the return of a politician's young son who was presumed dead after disappearing a decade earlier. While he is welcomed back into the family's arms, the question is: Is he really who he says he is? The cast includes Joan Allen, Allison Pilla, Margot Bingham, Zach Gilford, Liam James, Floriana Lima, Madeline Arthur, Rarmian Newton, Rupert Graves and Andrew McCarthy.
● "Of Kings and Prophets" — an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal told through the eyes of a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Oliver Rix, Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Mohammad Bakri and Tomer Kapon.
● "L.A. Crime" now entitled "Wicked City" — A police drama series that follows a different case set in a different noteworthy era of LA history, starting with a murder case from 1982 centered on the rock and roll, cocaine-infused revelry of Sunset Strip. Alliances are formed between detectives, reporters, drug dealers and club-goers to solve a serial murder case. The cast includes Adam Rothenberg, Ed Westwick, Taissa Farmiga, Gabriel Luna, Karolina Wydra, Holley Fain, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Anne Winters and Erika Christensen.
● "Quantico" — A drama series on a diverse group of young recruits who have arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best, brightest and most vetted, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest terrorist attack on New York City since 9/11. The cast includes Priyanka Chopra, Dougray Scott, Jake McLaughlin, Aunjanue Ellis, Yasmine Al Massri, Johanna Braddy, Tate Ellington and Graham Rogers.
● "Untitled" (formerly "Boom") — A drama series about Billy and Kelly Lefever dreaming of a new life beyond their working class roots and moving to "The Bakken" in North Dakota, booming after the biggest oil discovery in American history. They are soon pitted against a ruthless tycoon who forces them to put everything on the line, including their marriage. The cast includes Don Johnson, Chace Crawford, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Delroy Lindo, Amber Valetta, Scott Michael Foster, India De Beaufort, Yani Gellman and Caitlin Carver.
