2016 presidential candidate Ben Carson recently spoke out regarding a video that shows South Carolina police officer Michael Slager shooting an unarmed man in the back, killing him.

Carson said at a New York City event for Al Sharpton's National Action Network on Wednesday that the video shows clear evidence of an "execution"-style killing performed by a police officer.

"This situation with Walter Scott in South Carolina, you know I viewed that video with the same horror as I'm sure everyone here did. I was aghast that an execution could have occurred without a trial in the streets of America," Carson said at the event on Wednesday.

"This is such a clear-cut case that I believe it's going to give law enforcement in this country an opportunity to really tell us where they are in this controversy. They will have the opportunity to demonstrate which side they come down on. And I think that's actually a good thing because we need these clear-cut cases," Carson explained.

The video, taken by North Charleston resident Feidin Santana, shows 33-year-old police officer Michael T. Slager shooting 50-year-old unarmed man Walter Scott as he ran away. The scuffle reportedly took place after a traffic stop. Although Slager claimed that he felt threatened because Scott tried to steal his tazer gun, video footage from the incident shows that Scott had been running when he was shot in the back eight times by Slager.

After the video was made public, Slager was fired from his position as police officer with the North Charleston department and charged with murder for the death of Scott.
