Billy Graham tries to summarize God in a sentence, finds it impossible
Reverend Billy Graham's column in Kansas City Star has many followers. When one reader asked him if he could describe God in one sentence, the founder of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association found it impossible.
Even though 98-year-old Baptist minister no longer preaches to the public as he did when he was younger, he continues to encourage people to know more about Christ. Graham's teachings will always be remembered through books he authored, commentary quotes he made, and interviews granted on different television shows, among many others. However, when it comes to describing God in a sentence, Graham found it difficult.
He answered the query with great challenge, explaining that is impossible to describe God in one sentence and that there is no description that would aptly capture the greatness of an infinite God.
Graham also cited Romans 11:33-34, that even the Apostle Paul could not describe the Lord's greatness.
The evangelist said that if he had to summarize his definition of the Lord, he would simply say that "God loves us in spite of our sin and rebellion — and the proof is that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ, into the world to make it possible for us to become part of his family forever."
He also added that the Holy Bible has a better description: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
In his response to the query, Graham also urged people to reflect on this verse. He then asked the readers of his column in the Kansas City Star if they have responded to God's love, and invited them to accept and follow Jesus.
