Church informs 84 year old woman she cannot be buried next to husband

An 84-year-old woman in Minnesota was reportedly told by her church that she is no longer allowed to be buried next to her husband due to church policy.

Doreen Pawelk, of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, recently stopped attending church services after a disagreement with the congregation. The church then sent her a notice that she couldn't be buried next to her deceased husband unless she returns.

Daily Mail reported that the letter to Pawalk stated that she had "self-excluded" and was "no longer eligible to be buried at either the St. Mark or St. John Crow's River Cemeteries".

The Lutheran Church have responded, explaining that the letter was a misunderstanding.

Elders of the Church said that the letter was a mistake and they meant to send her one saying she was no longer a member of the congregation after she expressed disagreement with one of its leader.

Pastor LeRoy LePlant told Fox9 that it was a mistake and that the church has been deeply apologetic and reached out to the family. The pastor is hoping that the family will sit down with them.

Pawelk's husband pasted away last summer. Joshua Mason, Pawelk's grandson, posted the letter from the church on social media, commenting, "The Lutheran Church wants to call themselves Christians? My Grandma is 84 effing [sic] years old. Her soul is in danger? She can't be buried in a plot she already paid for? Scumbags."
