Cristiano Ronaldo's injury comparable to Jesus Christ's suffering, says Euro 2016 star's sister
Football great Cristiano Ronaldo's older sister likened the devastating knee injury he suffered during the Euro 2016 Final on Sunday night, July 10 to that of the suffering of Jesus Christ.
Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro took to Instagram to express support as the legendary football player and captain of Real Madrid broke down in tears as he took off on a stretcher after playing for only 25 minutes into the championship game and colliding against France's midfielder Dimitri Payet.
Aveiro said the pain "hurt like daggers on his chest" and that the Portuguese cried along with Ronaldo's pain.
"But God is great and I knew that just as our saviour Jesus Christ sacrificed himself the cross for a better world, Cristiano shed tears for the pain of not being able to fight with his companions to the end for his beloved homeland," wrote Aveiro (via Christian Today).
In another post, Aveiro pointed to God as the one who accompanied Ronaldo in his time of momentary suffering during the Final night.
"Your father never abandoned you in your greatest time of pain and suffering .... I know who comforted you at this time, it was our father, he wanted as much as you this cup to go to our country," she said.
She also told her brother that the historic game only showed the world that he was "special" and how he defied "the law of humanity."
Despite having Ronaldo on the benches, Portugal still walked out of the Stade de France with the Euro 2016 trophy and Aveiro celebrated Portugal's championship as justice served by a fair God.
The championship win only made the 31-year-old football superstar, who already bagged three Champions Leagues and three Ballons d'Or, a strong contender for Europe's greatest footballer.
In a defining moment and just when the team needed it badly, Ronaldo acted out his strong presence to team members by boosting them to heightened confidence and even acted like team coach as he offered tactical approaches beside their coach Fernando Santos.
Ronaldo just redeemed his selfish reputation to one as an inspiring leader who rose to the occasion and among the sports' greatest, according to BBC.
