Detroit Pastor Shoots, Kills Brick-Wielding Congregant
A Detroit pastor reportedly shot and killed a congregant over the weekend after the young man threatened fellow churchgoers with a brick.
The 36-year-old pastor of the City of God Church in Detroit reportedly opened fire on an unruly 25-year-old congregant after he entered the church on Sunday and began threatening fellow parishioners with a brick.
The pastor reportedly tried to reason with the young man, but when he was unable to he opened fire, shooting the man four to five times. The man then died later at a nearby hospital.
Local police, who have not released the names of the suspect or the pastor, have said that the young man who interrupted the early afternoon church service with a brick has had a history of threatening behavior with the church's pastor and its congregants.
The pastor had previously filed a police report against the young man for threatening behavior.
"The suspect entered the church, he allegedly had a brick in his hand and was threatening the pastor," Asst. Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt told Click on Detroit. "We've had a previous incident, at least one, and the pastor filed a police report."
The pastor was reportedly taken in for questioning at the local police station before being released without charges or an arrest.
Dolunt added to The Detroit News that the pastor "had had issues with the man before."
"He had been threatening him to do bodily harm. He walked into the service and went after the pastor with a brick. The pastor pulled out his Glock and fired several shots. I think he hit him four or five times, and the man died," Dolunt added.
