Disneyland, Disney World Ticket Price Latest News: Cost Increases, Breaks $100 for First Time
Disney parks in California and Orlando, Florida, announced increased ticket prices on Sunday. Ticket at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando is now $105 from $99, the first time the ticket price breached the $100 mark.
At Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, a one-day ticket now costs $99, while Orlando's Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios cost $97, Reuters said.
"A day at a Disney Park is unlike any other in the world, and there is strong demand for our attractions and entertainment," said Betsy Sanchez, Disneyland Resort spokeswoman, in a statement sent to Orange County Register. "We continually add new experiences, and many of our guests select multi-day tickets or annual passes, which provide a great value and additional savings."
Ticket prices for one-day, one-park admission at Disneyland increased from $43 in 2001 to $99 this year, according to the Orange County Register.
"Single-day ticket prices at Disneyland have increased by more than 140 percent since 2000; and 13 percent since Cars Land in Disney California Adventure opened in 2012," the report said.
John Gerner, managing partner of Leisure Business Advisors, was quoted by Reuters as saying that he was not surprised that Disney chose the Magic Kingdom to test triple-digit pricing.
"In the minds of a lot of theme park enthusiasts, especially those that love Disney, it is seen as being essentially priceless," he said.
Gerner said it would be difficult to know if the price increase would affect attendance.
SeaWorld Orlando and Universal Orlando usually increase prices soon after Disney, Reuters reported.
One-day, one-park adult tickets to Universal cost $96, while SeaWorld tickets range from $70 for a weekday admission and $80 for any day.
The Theme Park Entertainment Association said California Adventure had 8.5 million visitors in 2013, while Disneyland had 16.2 million visitors, the Orange County Register reported.
