Donald Trump Says Americans Agree with Ben Carson's Comments on Muslims
2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump has suggested that a lot of Americans agree with recent sentiments expressed by retired neurosurgeon and presidential candidate Ben Carson regarding Muslims.
Carson has received criticism for recently arguing that American voters should not elect a Muslim to presidential office because the hypothetical candidate's beliefs regarding Shariah Law would interfere with his ability to follow the U.S. Constitution.
"I could never support a candidate for President of the United States that was Muslim and had not renounced the central tenant of Islam: Sharia Law," Carson confirmed in a Facebook post after receiving criticism for his comments.
"I know that there are many peaceful Muslims who do not adhere to these beliefs. But until these tenants are fully renounced…I cannot advocate any Muslim candidate for President," Carson added.
Trump followed up on Carson's comments in a recent interview with Fox News' "On the Record," saying that he believes many Americans think there are difficulties with Islamic teaching.
"You know, Ben was saying there are difficulties," Trump told the program's hosts.
"And I think everybody knows what those difficulties are," Trump said. "People want to be politically correct, but there have been difficulties. And a lot of people agree with Ben."
"You do have a problem with the radical Muslims and the whole thing that's going on around the world," Trump added.
Trump, a real estate mogul, previously received criticism during a rally in New Hampshire when he failed to correct an attendee who described current U.S. President Barack Obama as a Muslim. Trump is known for waging a "birthing" campaign against Obama that questioned the president's American birthplace.
