'Duck Dynasty' Family Members Participate In Sponsored Independence Bowl
The cast of the hit A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty" began their sponsorship of the Duck Commander Independence Bowl over the holidays with a prayer, with most members of the famous Robertson family pitching in at some point during the game.
Sadie Robertson, daughter to Willie and Korie, reportedly delivered the opening prayer before the bowl football game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Miami Hurricanes. The game took place December 27 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
While the 17-year-old Robertson delivered the prayer, Missy Robertson sang the National Anthem with the help of her sons, while Uncle Si performed the beginning coin toss and Willie Robertson presented the trophy to the bowl's winner, the Gamecocks.
"It's fun that the whole family came over," Willie told local media outlet KTVE following the game. "We all did this together, like we do most things. I just was tickled that Missy and them sang and Sadie said the prayer, that's the way we do it in the Robertson family, we all work together as a team."
The Robertson family announced that its company, Duck Commander, would be sponsoring the Independence Bowl earlier this year. The hunting-gear company replaced the bowl's previous sponsor, Advocare, which reportedly had an $800,000 contract to sponsor the bowl. The Duck Commander contract is reported as being on-par with the Advocare contract.
"College football has always been important to the Robertson family. Some of us used to be players, all of us enjoy watching it. The Independence Bowl has always captured what college football is about. It's about our country, and about football," Robertson said in a statement shortly after his family announced they would be sponsoring the bowl.
