'Duck Dynasty' Family to Sponsor Independence Bowl
The Robertson family of the hit A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty" recently announced that it will be a sponsor of the upcoming Independence Bowl between Miami and South Carolina.
The bowl, played every year since 1976 in Shreveport, Louisiana, will take place this December 27. The event was previously sponsored by Advocare, a skincare brand, and The Shreveport Times reports that the "Duck Commander" brand has signed a six-year contract that is reportedly "on-par" with Advocare's $800,000 contract.
"We can confirm that Independence Bowl Foundation officials are very excited about a partnership with Duck Commander," Independence Bowl executive director Missy Setters told the local Shreveport Times.
The University of Miami Hurricanes will reportedly square off in the upcoming bowl against the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Miami Herald announced its local college team would be playing in the bowl this past weekend.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to compete against a program with the tradition and talent of South Carolina,'' University of Miami coach Al Golden said in a statement, adding that the event gives his team "valuable practice time and postseason experience.''
In a video uploaded to the Independence Bowl website, Willie Robertson, CEO of the "Duck Commander" brand, encourages football fans to attend or watch the game.
"College football has always been important to the Robertson family. Some of us used to be players, all of us enjoy watching it. The Independence Bowl has always captured what college football is about. It's about our country, and about football," Robertson says in the clip.
