Evangelist calls for McDonald's boycott over french fry boxes celebrating gay pride month

Joshua Feuerstein, a former pastor who has more than two million followers on Facebook, has called for a boycott on McDonald's after it announced the release of new rainbow colored French fry boxes as part of its efforts to support gay pride month.

According to CBN News, three McDonald's stores along Capital Pride Alliance's parade route in Washington D.C. will be serving large orders of French fries using the rainbow colored boxes between June 9 and June 11.

"DISGUSTING! McDonald's released their RAINBOW FRIES today in honor of GAY PRIDE!" Feuerstein wrote in a Facebook post on Friday, along with a photo of the new French fry boxes.

"I'm tired of corporations trying to influence our families like this. SHARE THIS and let people know to STOP EATING at McDonalds! Plus, their food is crap. Really," he added.

Cathy Martin, co-chair of the McDonald's PRIDE Network, said that the new boxes are a "fun way to show our support of the LGBTQ community using one of McDonald's most iconic and recognizable items," adding that the "fry boxes are 'small potatoes' in the grand scheme of our commitment to this community."

"We are proud to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community, including our employees, customers and beyond, each and every day," Martin added.

CBN News noted that McDonald's Family Restaurants in the Washington D.C. area is a sponsor of the Capital Pride Alliance, which is focused on providing LGBT education and outreach.

Feuerstein also denounced Macy's for its campaign supporting LGBT Pride Month, which is celebrated in June each year.

Former President Barack Obama has made official proclamations every year in support of the LGBT community, but President Donald Trump has made no such proclamation this year.

Feuerstein gained media attention in 2015 when he called for a boycott of Starbucks when it removed the words "Merry Christmas" from its holiday cups. He noted that he falsely gave his name as "Merry Christmas" when he ordered coffee so that Starbucks employees would be forced to write it on his cup. The evangelist then called on others to do the same and post a picture of themselves with their cup.

Trump, who was the Republican presidential candidate at that time, also suggested a boycott on Starbucks over its decision to remove "Merry Christmas" from its cups.
