Witnesses in Nigeria are reporting that a teenage suicide bomber killed 12 Friday when she detonated her explosive device in a mosque in the northeastern village of Malari.

Eyewitnesses, along with local militants working to fight against the Boko Haram, reported seeing the 15-year-old girl run into a crowd of worshippers at the local Malari mosque, detonating her explosive device and killing 12.

"The bomber was a girl aged around 15 who was seen around the mosque when worshippers were preparing for the afternoon prayers," Danlami Ajaokuta said of Thursday's attack in Malari village, adding 12 had died and seven were injured.

"People asked her to leave because she had no business there and they were not‎ comfortable with her in view of the spate of suicide attacks by female Boko Haram members," the witness continued.

"She made to leave‎ but while the people were inside the mosque for the prayers she ran from a distance into the mosque and blew herself up," he added.

Another suicide bombing attack took place in the same city on Friday when a female suicide bomber detonated her explosive device while in a taxi cab in front of a military checkpoint.

Also this week, members of the Boko Haram terror group killed at least 97 people in the town of Kukawa when they opened fire on a crowd gathered at a mosque as they completed their evening prayers.

"The terrorists first descended on Muslim worshippers in various mosques who were observing the maghrib [evening] prayer shortly after breaking their [Ramadan] fast," Babami Alhaji Kolo, a witness of the shooting, told The Guardian.

"They [...] opened fire on the worshippers, who were mostly men and young children," Kolo added.
