Florida church member shot and killed in random attack

A 22 year old church goer was gunned down in his car just after midnight on Thursday in Northwest Jacksonville, Florida. Police suspect that the incident was a random drive-by shooting.

According to News4Jax, Jerry Renaldo Brown Jr. went to work on Wednesday, attended choir practice in at Greater Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, stopped by a friend's house to assist them in painting the wall and then left to go to his aunt's home.

His family believe he stopped by near his aunt's home to use Wi-Fi when someone drove by and shot him in his car. No arrests were made.

According to Fire Coast News, the victim did not have any enemies and was an active churchgoer and choir member, a music director at another church, and volunteered with students at Raines High School.

Brown was born and raised in Springfield, where he worked as a barista at 3 Layers Café. J.C. St. Fleur, a former mentor, and teacher of Brown, said that he would not think of the victim having enemies because he was a very selfless and religious individual who was working hard to support his family.

According to the Florida Times Union, Chevie Green, the 22-year-old's boss and also his cousin, said that Brown had a humble heart, and his life  revolved around sharing the Gospel and helping his family.

She added that he did not drink nor smoke. Even after graduating, he was still involved in a social organization called the Rainesmen, where he drove their car to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade earlier this year.

Brown would have been 23 this month. His family plan a fundraise at 3 Layers Café to raise the award money for information regarding his death.
