Indian Nun Prays for Forgiveness for Suspects Who Raped Her in School
A 71-year-old nun in India is asking protesters to forgive a gang of men who raped her after they robbed the covenant school where she worked.
The incident happened this past Saturday morning when a group of young men reportedly robbed a convent school in the town of Ranaghat, in West Bengal. Surveillance footage from the robbery shows the faces of four men suspected of raping a 71-year-old nun at her neighboring convent after carrying out the robbery.
Although police have made arrests in connection with the vicious robbery, they are still reportedly searching for the men responsible for the elderly nun's rape.
According to the Times of India, the nun is reportedly being treated for her injuries at the local Ranaghat hospital, where she reportedly told reporters: "My heart is broken."
The local media outlet also reports that the nun was praying for forgiveness for her perpetrators.
"That's the greatness of spiritual soul like her," hospital superintendent Atindranath Mondal told the media outlet. "But all of us want the miscreants behind such heinous crime to be arrested and given exemplary punishment."
Police Superintendent Arnab Ghosh has offered details on the weekend crime to reporters, telling The Australian that the six men reportedly scaled a security wall before robbing the school.
"CCTV footage showed that six men, aged between 20 and 30, scaled the boundary wall around 11.40 pm and entered the school and disconnected the telephone lines," Ghosh told the media outlet.
"At least two of them were armed and the rest were carrying burglary tools. In the chapel, a holy scripture was found torn and […] a bust of Jesus was broken."
