New ISIS Video Shows Jordan Pilot Executed By Being Burned Alive
The Islamic State terror group has released a video that purportedly shows the Jordanian pilot who was being held hostage being burned alive.
The 22-minute video was released on one of the terror group's social media sites and purports to show Jordanian pilot, Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh, being burned alive at the stake.
The burning of a hostage alive serves as an even more gruesome method of killing than previously employed by the Islamic State. The terrorist group has previously uploaded videos showing live beheadings of hostages, including two American journalists, and most recently of two Japanese citizens.
President Barack Obama said Tuesday that if the latest video is indeed verified as authentic, the recent death of Kaseasbeh serves as "just one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity" of the Islamic State.
National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said in an email to The Washington Post that "the intelligence community is working to confirm [the video's] authenticity."
"The United States strongly condemns ISIL's actions, and we call for the immediate release of all those held captive by ISIL. We stand in solidarity with the government of Jordan and the Jordanian people," she added.
According to Reuters, a Jordanian government spokesperson has promised a "strong, earth-shaking and decisive" response to Kaseasbeh's murder.
"The revenge will be as big as the calamity that has hit Jordan," army spokesman Colonel Mamdouh al Ameri said in a televised statement.
On Tuesday, reports emerged that Jordan had moved a number of its convicted ISIS prisoners to a death row location, indicating that their death sentences would be fast-tracked to this week in response to the horrific killing of Kaseasbeh.
