Justin Bieber distances himself from Floyd Mayweather after friends at Hillsong advise him to remove 'bad influences'
Pop sensation Justin Bieber reportedly unfollowed boxing champion Floyd Mayweather on Instagram after the singer was advised by his friends at Hillsong Church to remove "bad influences" from his life.
According to TMZ, Mayweather was furious at Bieber after learning that the pop singer decided to unfollow him on social media.
Mayweather reportedly lashed out at Bieber and called him a "traitor" because the boxer had provided emotional support to the singer when he was being criticized by the public.
Sources connected with Bieber have told TMZ that the singer's friends at Hillsong had been advising him for months to pull back from friends who are bad influences.
While Mayweather was not singled out as a bad influence, the pop sensation reportedly decided on his own that he needed some distance from the boxing champion. TMZ's sources have said that Bieber did not want to completely sever ties with Mayweather, but he only wanted to "reset boundaries," and avoid negative influences like the boxer's attraction to strip clubs.
Bieber was reportedly a close friend of Mayweather in the past, and he had accompanied the boxer to some of his previous fights.
Last week, Bieber had stated that he does not believe that Mayweather could knock out UFC's Conor McGregor at next Saturday's fight.
McGregor has boasted that the upcoming fight is set to break records and surpass the $618 million generated by Mayweather's bout with Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
Sources have reportedly told TMZ that Bieber is unlikely to attend the fight that will be held in Las Vegas.
Bieber has become increasingly close to Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz, and he has been attending a Hillsong church regularly in Los Angeles.
There had been speculations that the pop singer was looking to "reconnect with his faith," when he unexpectedly canceled the last remaining 14 dates of his Purpose world tour in July. Bieber, however, denied rumors that Hillsong Church was behind the decision.
Bieber later released a statement regarding the cancellation, saying he needed to protect his calling.
"On the tour I've learned the more you appreciate your calling the more you want to protect your calling. Me taking this time right now is me saying I want to be sustainable," he said.
"I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind heart and soul to be sustainable. So that I can be the man I want to be, the husband I eventually want to be and the father I want to be," he added.
