Pop star Katy Perry has made announcement last Friday that she donated $10,000 to Planned Parenthood over concerns that the abortion provider might be defunded under the presidency of Donald Trump.

"It's time to turn words into action❗️ There are so many steps to take, but my first vow is to support organizations that may have their funding support taken from them in the future by the government," the singer wrote on Instagram.

Perry, whose birth name is Kathryn Hudson, revealed that she had visited clinics in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles as a teenager to receive information on the subject of sexual health.

"Planned Parenthood educated me on my body and my reproductive health, so that I could focus on my dreams and using my voice until I knew the timing was right for me to make a plan to have a family," Perry added.

Perry, a daughter of an evangelical minister, campaigned vigorously for Hillary Clinton before the elections and even performed at several rallies.

The singer concluded her post by encouraging others to show their support for the abortion provider.

During the campaign period, Trump had revealed to pro-life leaders that he intends to defund Planned Parenthood. He promised to re-allocate the funding to other community health care centers for women.

Other celebrities such as Amy Schumer and Amber Tamblyn are encouraging others to make donations to the abortion provider using the name of Vice President-Elect Mike Pence.

Bethany Cosentino of the band Best Coast, who was one of the first to promote the campaign, wrote, "You can make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence's name and he'll receive the certificate of the donation."

According to IndyStar, Planned Parenthood had received 160,000 donations since the elections and 20,000 were done in Pence's name.

The corporate watchdog group 2ndVote has revealed that the abortion provider also receives donations directly from large corporations such as Adobe, ExxonMobil, Johnson & Johnson, Levi Strauss, Nike, Oracle, Pfizer, Verizon and Wells Fargo.

There are also other companies that support 3rd party groups that fund Planned Parenthood.
