La. Gov. Bobby Jindal, American Family Association To Hold Prayer Rally At LSU

The American Family Association is set to sponsor a massive prayer rally led by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and set to be held at the Louisiana State University campus next month, prompting many to speculate on a potential 2016 presidential run for the southern politician.

The prayer rally, entitled The Response, is set to take place on January 24 at the university's Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Some groups have argued that Jindal should not be partnering with the American Family Association due to the Christian group's conservative views on hot button issues like same-sex marriage.

Shannon Bates, Jindal's deputy communications manager, has responded to NOLA.com regarding backlash about the AFA with a statement that read: "I haven't looked at their website, so you will need to talk to them about it. Here's what we do know [...] our nation is facing serious issues, but God is real, He is powerful, and He answers prayer. That is why we are asking people to come to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on January 24th and pray for revival."

"This is a prayer meeting -- not a political rally. One thing that most people can agree on is that prayer is a positive thing," Bates said.

Not all students and faculty are pleased with the university's decision to allow a prayer rally on campus property. Some members of the school's Faculty Senate are reportedly planning to protest the rally and also to implore to school to change its policy on which groups are allowed to hold meetings in campus spaces.

[Our resolution] would require that facilities host events that advance the mission of the university. It is a public facility, but it is also on the grounds of a higher education institution. We will be looking into that, having some criteria set down for the use of facilities," Kevin Cope, president of the Faculty Senate, told NOLA.com recently.
