Lacey Sturm talks about healing after emotional affair with married man

Former Flyleaf frontwoman Lacey Sturm poured her heart out about how she found healing after her divorce, struggle with suicide and her emotional affair with a married man in her recently released memoir, "The Mystery: Finding True Love in a World of Broken Lovers."

In an interview with The Christian Post, Sturm said that she felt uncertain about publishing the book, which was released on Oct. 4, but she realized how much it was needed. She believes that there are many other people who face the same questions and choices that she once had.

Sturm recounted in her memoir that she once had an inappropriate relationship with a married man named Nathan. She said that she disregarded the advice of her friends and the youth leaders at her church and continued to counsel Nathan who called her day and night seeking "godly advice." She realized that everyone was right when Nathan finally hit on her.

"For me, when I would hear about things before going through it myself, I would be like, 'What's wrong with them? They're not good people.' I would judge them and immediately condemn them. But now when I hear stories, I'm like, 'Well I know exactly what that feels like — when you think with all your heart that it's the right thing but it's so destructive to everything around you,'" she narrated.

In another chapter of her book, she revealed that she once thought that submission to authority was "stupid" but she has since discovered that following godly counsel brings about "miraculous safety and miraculous peace."

Sturm said that it was her marriage that made her more comfortable with trusting others. She clarified that she is not putting faith in men but in God who will protect defend and protect her.

In her memoir, she detailed what she went through when she got married at 19 and getting divorced at 21. She also talked about becoming suicidal which led her to question her faith in God.

"I ended up at the very end learning that even though God brings people into your life to represent His heart, His father's heart, or His great love," she said.

Sturm amicably left Flyleaf in October 2012. Although she currently does not have any plans to reunite with the band, she stated that she is open to the possibility of returning as the band's singer.

Her first solo project, "Life Screams," took the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart after it was released last February.
