'Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' release date, latest news: Upcoming game's backstory revealed through special edition map

Dedicated fans of "The Legend of Zelda" video game franchise have recently uncovered a detailed back story for the upcoming game installment "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
As reported by Polygon, a split-second glimpse of a parchment map — a premium item included in the Special or Master editions of "Breath of the Wild" — seen during the Nintendo live stream last weekend provided the backstory for the game after dedicated fans translated it twice.
Youtuber Zeltik, in particular, took screenshots of the map, enhanced the photo, and decoded the Sheikah script written on the map (the language used in Zelda's canon). Everything was translated into Japanese before the Japanese interpretation was translated again into English.
The inscription on the map reads: "Hylians pass stories of a destined time long past where multiple races lived and worked together in harmony. The Sheikah Tribe's blue aura breathed through the land and this mutual prosperity continued until a cataclysmic disaster stuck. The Hero and the Princess attempted to seal the terror which became known as the Calamity Ganon. Divine beasts awoke from four directions and deployed a mechanical army which made the King and his people fearful. They fractured Ganon's power and sealed him, but the Sheikah were banished from the land ever since."
Essentially, the entire backstory paints a very tragic picture. The Sheikah were a technologically-advanced race who attempted to defeat Calamity Ganon using four divine beasts and a mechanical army. Ganon was eventually sealed away in Hyrule Castle. However, the Sheikah army's strength bothered and was feared by the King of Hyrule. Hence, the entire tribe was banished.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is set to launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch console on March 3. A Wii U version of the video game is also scheduled to arrive on the same date.
