'Lucifer' season 2' return date, spoilers, news: EP teases Maze's impending betrayal; loyal sidekick to side with Lucifer's mom?

What is the price of Maze’s (Lesley-Ann Brandt) betrayal in “Lucifer†season 2? | Facebook/LuciferonFOX

Ever since it dawned on Mazikeen, also known as Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), that she will be stuck in the human world for a very long time, she's been more interested in forging her own path. But no matter how much her perspectives have changed, her loyalty to her master Lucifer (Tom Ellis) never wavered.

However, executive producer Ildy Modrovich has recently teased via TV Line that the back half of "Lucifer" season 2 may just throw the titular character's most loyal minion in a situation that will force her to take part in Charlotte's (Tricia Helfer) plan of convincing her son to go back home to the Silver City. Her desire to be her own person may have become greater the longer she stayed with humans.

"She'll get to the point where she'll think that maybe she has to even betray Lucifer, in order to get full independence," Modrovich said.

How will Maze's impending betrayal affect Lucifer? Will Maze be choosing of her own free will or will she be put under pressure to go against her master?

"I need to figure out where I fit in in this world," Maze once told her erstwhile lover Amenadiel (DB Woodside), whose car she would later blow into smithereens for threatening the life of her new friend Chloe (Lauren German). Has Maze chosen to err on the side of humanity? Will her betrayal of Lucifer entail the safety of her newfound friendships with Linda (Rachael Harris), Chloe, and Chloe's daughter Trixie (Scarlett Estevez)?

On the show's first episode of the year, Charlotte will keep up with the manipulation of her son and Chloe's romance for her own gain amidst a murder investigation that involves two of Lucifer's ex-flames. Titled "Stewardess Interruptus," the episode will also reveal a much larger threat than what they've all anticipated.

"Lucifer" season 2 episode 11 will put everybody's idea of love and sacrifice to the test when it airs on Monday, Jan. 16, at 9:01 p.m. EST on FOX.
