Megyn Kelly Defends Freedom of Speech in Muhammad Cartoon Shooting
Fox News host Megyn Kelly recently sparked a media fire storm when she offered her opinion on the recent shooting at a controversial Muhammad cartoon drawing contest in Dallas, Texas.
Kelly, known for her conservative views, disagreed with guest Richard Fowler on an airing of this week's "The Kelly File" on Fox News, suggesting that the group that recently organized the Muhammad drawing contest in Dallas, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, should have the right to free speech, even though their event was seen as offensive.
Kelly shot back when Fowler suggested that the recent cartoon competition had been "stupid" and "ridiculous," arguing that the organizers invoked attacks on the participants by hosting such a controversial event.
"So we in this country need to limit our constitutional rights, we have to limit our free speech, lest we invite attack?" Kelly asked. "That's the way we need to be looking at this?"
Fowler responded by saying that "freedom of speech comes with limits, and this is a clear limit."
"No it isn't!" Kelly responded. "You're totally wrong."
Kelly added that she believes Fowler is "fundamentally confused and wrong."
Last Sunday, two gunmen opened fire on the controversial Muhammad cartoon event held in Garland, a suburb of Dallas. One security guard was injured in the attack before police officers shot the two men dead.
One of the suspects was previously being investigated by the FBI for stating his intent to travel to the Middle East to join a terrorist organization.
