Minnesota Atheists Participate In 'War on Christmas' With Good Deeds
An atheist group in Minnesota is reportedly attempting to spread its own Christmas cheer by participating in a "War on Christmas" that involves giving food to the poor and other good deeds.
The local Minnesota Atheists organization is reportedly trying to do good deeds around the holidays to prove that nonbelievers can also possess the holiday spirit that includes giving, kindness and helping those less fortunate.
"People have to do God's work, because there is no God to do God's work," Eric Jayne, president of Minnesota Atheists, told the Pioneer Press recently.
"Christians do not own Christmas," Jayne added.
Jayne has named his group's holiday practices the "War on Christmas" to show nonbelievers can also be filled with holiday cheer. The group has recently participated in giving gifts to poor and distributing food to the homeless as part of their seasonal event.
The atheist group also wrote about their "War on Christmas" on their website, saying: "As we prepare for another 'War on Christmas', Minnesota Atheists is proud to help fight hunger and make the holidays a little brighter for individuals and families in Minnesota."
Christians have continued to assert that the reason for the season this Christmas is Christ's birth. Todd Starnes, columnist for Fox News, commended those cities across the U.S. that continue to identify Christ as the reason behind the holiday season.
"I believe that Jesus is the reason for the season and that makes me about as politically incorrect as they come – especially among our nation's ill-tempered atheists," Starnes recently wrote.
