Sasuke's atonement arc finally concludes this week with Chino and Sasuke's final showdown.

After episode 487's flashback sequences, fans are now very eager to see how the last survivors of the Chinoike and Uchiha clans will resolve their differences. In the trailer for the next episode, Chino is shown asking Sasuke why he would want to lay his life for a village that has done nothing but use his clan for its purposes. Sasuke answers by referring to the friendship he has with Naruto and how this has gradually changed the way he views things. Naruto believes that a peaceful world where people care for more just themselves can be attained. Will Sasuke be able to make Chino see reason through Naruto's influence?

Titled "The Last One," the upcoming episode is expected to feature an intense battle between Chino and Sasuke as the latter tries to make the former see reason. Chino hates Sasuke for foiling her plans of dissolving the Shinobi system in villages, the same thing that Sasuke was planning to do before Naruto brought him down. The Ketsuryugan battles it out with the Sharingan, but it would eventually be the Rinnegan that finally brings Chino to her defeat.

Sasuke defeats Chino without having to kill her and he goes on to promise the last surviving Chinoike that he will aspire to achieve and thereby protect the peace that she has always wanted but has already stopped believing in. Chin and her companion Nowaki, who is the real Fuushin, will be imprisoned in a village, but will later be released in exchange for services to Kumogakure and Kirigakure.

Naruto writes to Sasuke about how proud Sakura is for what he has achieved with Chino and Nowaki. The letter helps Sasuke decide to end his journey of atonement to finally go back home to Konoha, where Sakura, his future wife, will be waiting for him at the gates.

This is how it happened in the novel on which the current arc is based. How much of this will be adapted and which part may be changed will remain unknown until the episode airs on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 7:30 p.m. JST on TV Tokyo.
