Christian singer Natalie Grant has opened up about the trauma of almost losing her 8-year-old daughter, Gracie, from asthma complications shortly after Christmas.

Grant rushed one of her twin daughters to the hospital after noticing the skin around her mouth turn blue. Nurses in the emergency room took Gracie's vitals and immediately rushed her to see doctors. Gracie's lung had collapsed, and the other was at 50 percent capacity.

Natalie told the Tennessean that she started to panic and cry as Gracie was brought to the intensive care unit due to asthma complications and pneumonia.

Gracie first started showing signs that something was not right on Christmas day at a party attended by closely 30 relatives, while at Natalie's parents' house in Seattle. After telling her daughters to stand in front of the Christmas tree for a picture, Gracie was struggling to smile, saying she had trouble breathing, so Natalie began to count her daughter's breaths. The number was twice as high as the average 18 to 22 breaths per minute for children.

Natalie took Gracie to the emergency room, where Gracie was said to have pneumonia. She was given a breathing treatment and some medicine and was sent home. It was the next day that part of Gracie's face turned blue, she was also unable to speak at the time.

Natalie shared that she would leave the room and cry her eyes out, then come back to hold her daughter's hand. Natalie started praying for her daughter, putting her arms around her as she lay in her hospital bed. Her husband Bernie posted a picture of her praying on Facebook, which sparked fans to pray for her daughters' recovery.

According to Daily Mail, Natalie and her husband Bernie took shifts watching their daughter and documented and posted on Facebook her hospitalization. Earlier in her career, Natalie decided to be transparent on social media to have a genuine connection with fans. She wanted to build a community of people who know who she is.

Christian Post reported Natalie asked for prayers on Facebook posts and many people including friends from the industry Don Moen and Jason Crabb responded to her request. She requested to pray for Gracie's oxygen levels because it was low at 80 percent and it needs to increase. It went high up to 100 percent just overnight.

Natalie confessed that she did not expect she all these people to unite in prayer for her daughter. She said the prayers and support gave them a lot of strength and helped them make it through their trial.

After less than a week in the hospital, Gracie's breathing was back to normal, and she was back to her usual self. In Natalie's Facebook post on New Year's Day, she said they are heading home, thanking God for the miraculous recovery of her daughter and thanking all for their prayers and concern. She followed it with a touching photo of her three daughters hugging each other with caption 'Together again.'

Natalie Grant is a mother of three daughters and is married to Canadian producer Bernie Herms. She is regarded as one of the most successful singer-songwriters of contemporary Christian music winning numerous awards.
