A newly-created book is receiving criticism for allegedly imitating the script of the Bible, but replacing all references to God with "Kanye West."

The novelty book, entitled "The Book of Yeezus," is being sold by an Etsy merchant for $20. According to The Christian Post, the book's text bares striking similarity to the Bible's Old Testament text, but every reference to God is replaced with "Kanye."

"In the beginning Kanye created the heaven and the earth [...] And Kanye said, Let there be light: and there was light," the text reads.

A description for the book suggests that it is attempting to combine the teachings of the Bible with modern pop culture, calling the novelty book a "Bible for the modern day."

"What if the Bible, the most singularly significant publication in the ancient canon of Western tradition, were updated to reflect our modern society? What would it look like? What we came up with was an interventionist art, coffee-table novelty, that will appeal to both Kanye fans everywhere and those made curious by this enormous cultural phenomenon," the book's creators explain on their Etsy page.

The book has received criticism from those who argue its creators take the joke of Kanye West as Jesus too far.

Others have previously criticized West for his egotistical attitude toward his artistic craft. West said in 2009 that he believes he is a vessel of God.

"God chose me, He made a path for me. I am God's vessel," he said back in 2009. "But my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live."
