NFL running back Adrian Peterson has officially been reinstated by the NFL for the 2015 season after temporarily being suspended from the league after facing a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault to a child.

Both the NFL and the Minnesota Vikings announced Peterson's reinstatement to the lague earlier this week.

"The Minnesota Vikings have been informed by the NFL that Adrian Peterson has been reinstated. We look forward to Adrian re-joining the Vikings," the NFL team said in a statement.

The NFL also released a statement indicating that Peterson will be allowed to play in the 2015 season given he follows the requirements given to him by the court.

Peterson reached a plea deal in a Texas court after being indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child after he allegedly beat his four year old son with a switch as punishment.

"Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings was advised today that effective tomorrow he is reinstated as an active NFL player and may participate in all scheduled activities with the Vikings," the statement from the NFL said.

"In a letter from Commissioner Roger Goodell, Peterson was informed that he is expected to fulfill his remaining obligations to the authorities in Minnesota and Texas, as well as the additional commitments Peterson made during his April 7 meeting with the commissioner regarding maintaining an ongoing program of counseling and treatment as recommended by medical advisors," the statement added.

In the coming months, U.S. District Judge David S. Doty will reportedly decide how many game checks Peterson will lose, with the number ranging from three to none.
